The British established the Wah Tea Estate in 1857. Tucked away in the Himalayan foothills in Himachal Pradesh in India is the Kangra district, where China supplied seedlings and we set up the first estate in 1852.

This estate saw decades of continuous cultivation. How ever after a devastating earthquake struck the region in 1905, the industry disrupted. After, Sir Sikander Hayat-Khan took over the Wah Estate. The word ‘Wah’ means ‘wow’, and a visit to the estate will hopefully elicit the same reaction!

In 1953, the Chaiwala family from Dehradun took over the Estate. The Chaiwala family has a rich history in the tea industry since the 1940s.

The family grew and the plantations were divided amongst the younger generations. The renowned ‘Chaiwala’ name continues to bind them together. The third and fourth generations of the family, Deepak and Surya Prakash now look after Wah Tea Estate.
